There's a reason most Olympic teams travel with a massage therapist.
Massage therapy reduces stress on the body's soft tissues, soothes tired muscles, and improves blood flow to help with regeneration and recovery.
And these benefits are not just for elite athletes. In fact optimising recovery time through massage is valuable to anyone managing the effects of stress, injury or rehabilitation.
The All-rounder massage
Remedial massage is the perfect "all-rounder" massage. Great for a specific injury, whether old or new, and for non-specific muscle and joint soreness. Your massage therapist will use a variety of techniques, including trigger point release, deep tissue, soft tissue and myofascial release. Remedial massage is great for muscle strains (think hamstring, calf or quad), shoulder sprain, back pain, headaches and buttock pain. Plenty of oohs and aahs in this one, but you'll feel great afterwards.
Some pain, all gain
Deep tissue massage is great for deeper injuries and aching type pain. Your therapist will go a little deeper, using sustained pressure techniques to alleviate tightness in deep muscles and fascial tissue. This technique promotes faster healing by increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation. Be warned though, it can hurt a little to get that deep!
It's all about performance
You won't find any candles or aromatherapy at this one. This massage is all about releasing those soft tissues that are crying out for a break from training and a little TLC. Deep tissue, rolling, trigger point releases, stretches. Your body will be a little sore afterwards and then be singing for days.
The relaxing one
If you're after a chill, relaxing vibe, give a shiatsu massage a go. Derived from the Japanese term for "finger pressure" and with roots in Traditional Chinese Medicine, it involves applying pressure to specific points on the body, moving from one point to another in a rhythmic sequence. Great for headaches, neck pain, back pain and sciatica. Try not to fall asleep.
You absolutely deserve this
A super special massage for a special time of life! Talk to your massage therapist to identify the areas most in need of some TLC. A combination of swedish, deep tissue and shiatsu will leave you feeling relaxed and reinvigorated. Indulge yourself. You deserve it.
